Rodolfo Fredi Rome 1930
Fredi (1861-1950) learned the fundamentals of instrument making from his father and traveled to Rome in 1879 to complete his studies.
Fredi opened his own workshop in Rome, where he worked until his death. He copied Stradivari models and made instruments after his own patterns. He made a wide range of instruments, all varying in quality and price, which catered to different clientele. He used spirit varnish for his low end models and oil varnish for his high end instruments. He won medals at the Turin 1911 and Rome 1917 expositions and was appointed president of the Rome Association of Violin Makers in 1927.
This violin has a beautiful quilted maple back, full arching, and Fredi's original label, which includes an illustration and a signature.
