Carlo Columbo Bruno (1872 - 1964) is believed to be self-taught. He made a wide range of bowed and plucked instruments from his Turin workshop. He won medals at the 1898 Turin, 1900 Paris, and 1916-1917 Rome luthier competitions. Bruno used three different brands, which he used to mark the inside of his instruments. He typically used a reddish varnish.
